Now that school is back in full swing, it’s hard not to daydream of blissful snow days spent playing outside. But, not to worry, here is a list of three of the most accessible ski resorts in the area, so that any day can be a snow day.

Wolf Ridge
Wolf Ridge is the closest resort to campus as it is only 40 miles away. It is Located in Mars Hill, NC, and is the cheapest option for Milligan students. They offer a college discount with ID, and Thursday night lift tickets are only $15 for students. Tubing is available as an alternative activity. Their website is: www.skiwolfridgenc.com. Milligan’s annual Night Ski Trip will take place here on Feb. 4. Transportation from campus will be provided and the $15 deposit can be dropped off at the Campus Activities office.
All three resorts offer day skiing from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and night skiing from 6 until 10. Happy skiing!
Beech Mountain
This resort is located just an hour from campus in Beech Mountain, NC. Aside from skiing and snowboarding, it offers ice skating, tubing, shopping and dining. For the extreme athletes out there, there are four black diamond runs and freestyle terrain. The summit sits at 5506 feet, earning the resort the title of highest ski area in the eastern US. Sugar Mountain
Sugar Mountain is also only an hour from campus and is located about 10 miles south of Beech Mountain. Not up for shredding? Other activities include ice skating, tubing, snowshoeing, shopping, dining and live music. Sugar Mountain was voted the best ski mountain in 2015 in The Appalachian Online.
