As a Christian college whose mission statement is to “honor God by educating men and women to be servant-leaders,” Milligan has long been a destination for students who are pursuing careers in ministry. Many of these students get firsthand experience by interning overseas.

Sophomore Mitchell Hancock is majoring in photography and moving toward a missionary life.

“It is my dream to be able to use photography alongside missions. I could maybe work for a missions organization as their photographer--it would be really cool to travel the world taking pictures of their missionaries.”

Next semester, Hancock plans to go to Burkina Faso, West Africa, as an intern with Christian Missionary Fellowship (CMF). Although he originally applied to go to either Kenya or India, he says he is, nevertheless, excited to be a part of what God is doing in Burkina.

“I will be helping out with a health club for children, a storytelling ministry, and participating with developmental projects.”

Students Andre Palpant and Caleb Nix are also planning internships with CMF, but for June and July of this summer. Palpant is a sophomore double major in economics and accounting, with a Bible minor. Nix is majoring in business management, with a double minor in digital media and photography. Both students will be traveling to Kenya, Eastern Africa, to work in the microfinance department.

“The best way to describe it is nonprofit banking--providing loans and various financial services to rural areas or to people who don’t have access to banks or financial service,” Palpant said.

Palpant and Nix are giving out originally designed stickers and cookies to anyone who donates financially to their trip and they both say they welcome the gift of prayer.
