Martin Daniel, a Republican representative in Knoxville, reportedly said he supported the right of terrorist group ISIS to recruit at Tennessee state colleges last Wednesday while presenting a bill called the “Tennessee Student Free Speech Protection Act.”

The act would require state colleges to adopt this freedom of speech and expression act to “ensure free, robust, and uninhibited debate and deliberations by students of Tennessee institutions whether on or off campus”.

During his presentation of the bill, Daniel reportedly took a question from Representative John DeBerry Jr., who asked if someone should be able to stand in the middle of a campus and recruit for ISIS.

“Yes,” Daniel said, according to The Tennessean. “So long as it doesn’t disrupt the proceedings on that campus. Yes sir. They can recruit people for any other organization or any other cause. I think it’s just part of being exposed to differing viewpoints.”

Daniel’s remarks came just days before ISIS’ attack on Brussels Tuesday morning, which killed 31 people, wounded at least 270 more and left others missing.
