The 29th annual One Acts Festival kicked off Monday evening with four one act plays directed by Collin Hawley, Brianna Florian, Hope Dingus and Jeanette Hartsough on the opening night.

The festival was held April 25-27 and each night it began at 6 p.m. The festival consisted of 13 different one act plays chosen by the 13 directors from the Fundamentals of Directing class (THEA 340).

“We select our own plays and are told from the get go to start looking for a stage manager,” junior Collin Hawley said. “After the open auditions, all the directors sit down and start picking our own cast as well.”

Hawley directed the one act play “Success” by Arthur Kopit.

“I was looking for a play with a small cast; the limit we could use was four,” Hawley said. “I liked that (“Success”) was simple and short.”

Collin went on to say that this specific one act gave him more room to play with the technical side of theater, for example the lights and sound.

Hawley’s production included Richard Lura and Haven Sanders as actors and Keila Lou-Lope as stage manager.

Each play commented on a different aspect of life. Junior Jeanette Hartsough directed a one act on the awkwardness of talking to a crush, and junior Brianna Florian’s production demonstrated the painfulness of going through an illness and death.

The One Acts Festival carried on through Wednesday evening with nine other directors and performances.
