A Study Abroad Experience
By Caroline Taylor
Receiving an education does not have to be limited to a college campus and dull classrooms, but can include a wide variety of atmospheres for students to engage. Milligan College has numerous opportunities allowing students to explore and learn, both locally and worldwide.
Study Abroad is a program Milligan offers to students who want to advance their education in a new environment and culture. Megan Lincoln, a junior at Milligan, expressed her thoughts on her experience studying abroad.
“I definitely recommend it for anyone in any major,” said Lincoln.
Megan chose to go to Maryland, where she was an intern at Mountain Christian Church. There, she led a small group for high school girls and helped the staff with various jobs. She actively helped in the church, while also taking virtual courses through Milligan and one course from a neighboring community college.
Megan said that living and working in a new environment was strange at first, but as time passed, she became close to her host family, as well as her church community.
Andrea and Michael Sung hosted Megan in Maryland. She stayed with them for the duration of her trip.
“It was like having an apartment with roommates,” Lincoln said. “There was no parental guidance. I just made sure I was respectful.”
Lincoln also said that some of her best friends came from the community she was involved with.
Milligan College offers this opportunity to students in every major. There are numerous concentrations to focus on, as well as multiple places around the world to travel. Megan chose this opportunity outside of her major, and claimed she wouldn’t take back the experience for the world.
