Harmony and Hope: A Buff Nation Benefit

By Alyssa Bartlett

Over $3,000 was raised at the Harmony and Hope Benefit on October 18th and 19th. The events were held to raise money for women's basketball players Kristian Moses, who recently donated a kidney to her mother, and junior Caitlyn Cain, who was diagnosed with a rare cancer this past summer.  "The benefit was extremely helpful. I was deeply moved by all the support given to me not only financially but emotionally as well. It was a great blessing to see my community support my teammate and myself. It has been a difficult time for my family but I have grown in my faith. I am so thankful for my family, team, and the BUFF nation," Cain said. Approximately 300 tickets were sold for $5 each for students and staff to attend a benefit concert put on by Milligan grad Erin Aubrey and her band. Moses, Cain, and  their families attended.

John Crowe, a current Milligan student, opened the show with a performance of a song he wrote, called "The Lord is My Ocean," and Milligan grads Amy Aubrey and Nathan Hall also performed. "The Friday event in chapel was a really good evening of music and support," women's basketball Coach Rich Aubrey said. Students also raised money the week before to see which faculty/staff member would sing on stage. The "winners" were professors Heather Hoover and David Campbell, and student Zach Hollifield also performed in this "Dareoke" event. Moses and Cain were deeply appreciative of the contributions made by the Milligan community.  "The benefit was a blessing to my family to help with medical supplies and gas money for all the times we have to go back and forth to the hospital for awhile. Seeing how many people showed up to support me and Caitlyn was just an overwhelming feeling of love! We just thank everyone for their kindness and Godly love they have showed our families," Moses said.
