Milligan will complete a $150,000 remodel on the cafeteria’s kitchen floor this summer.

Brent Nipper, director of property and risk management, said cafeteria staff discovered that the floor joists were deteriorating after having issues with a cooler door dragging on the ground. This deterioration would “eventually cause the floor to drop.”

Burleson Construction, a company that’s worked on other Milligan building projects, is contracted to fix the floor. A larger and more energy efficient freezer and cooler will be installed along with other minor improvements. Work will begin after graduation and be completed by mid-June.

“Most of the work will be done during the down time between graduation and the start of the summer camp season,” said Nipper. “The main cooking areas of the kitchen will not be affected.”

Nipper noted that cafeteria staff and administration are confident they will “be able to provide the appropriate and expected level of food and service to all groups on campus this summer.”

“Dr. Greer and the administration of the college are committed to addressing issues in this area with quality work and careful planning and use of resources,” said Nipper.
