If you are a returning student here at Milligan College, then you might have recognized new faces this school year.
With a smaller community, it’s easy to notice when someone that once went to Milligan is no longer here. Retention rates are an ongoing problem that Milligan is constantly addressing.
Former Milligan Cross Country/Track runner, Ayden Farmer, spoke about the reasons he decided to leave Milligan.
Ayden said, “The main reason I left were financial issues. I enjoyed being at Milligan my first year of college, but I think a larger campus would be best for me.”
Ayden is currently enrolled to Northeast State Community College, located in Blountville, TN. He hopes to peruse a larger school once he finishes his Associate’s degree.
Heather Jackson, the Director of Student Success, spoke of general reasons why Milligan students leave and how faculty addresses this issue.
Heather listed out reasons such as financial problems, athletic issues or program limitations as some of the general reasons students leave Milligan.
The retention rate this year is at 91%, reflecting off the percentage of total Milligan students that came back that are enrolled Fall 2014.
Heather said, “Our retention rates are pretty high. We do all we can for the students, as long as they are willing to let us help them with any problem they face.”
