Milligan College’s women’s volleyball team had their first conference game on Sept. 19, 2014 against Bryan College. Bryan is tied for first place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) pre-season poll with Columbia.
Milligan came into the game with a record of 7-6, looking forward to jump starting their conference play with a motivating win.
That night the women’s volleyball team also wanted to support the fight against leukemia, so they passed out free cupcakes to raise awareness and prayed for the people fighting the disease after the game.
Milligan came out strong the first set. The Buffs lead most of the way, but after a couple of acrobatic plays by Bryan players, they quickly lost the lead. Bryan won the first set 25-17.
In the second set, Milligan took a huge seven-point lead on Bryan, making it virtually impossible for them to come back. Milligan won that set 25-22, with a kill from freshman Marissa Langford to finish it.
After winning the second set, Milligan went on to lose the next two consecutive sets, with scores of 25-14 and a close one in set four of 25-21.
The games were close, Milligan just could not penetrate Bryan’s tough defense at the end. The volleyball team’s record is now 6-8 overall and 0-1 in the AAC.
Milligan’s next game is today (Sept. 20, 2014) against Reinhardt University at home. The game will begin at 11 a.m. and will also be streamed live on the Buffs athletic page.
