Campus Security

By: Caroline Taylor

Students may have noticed that the dorms are no longer unlocked throughout the day, rather having all doors locked day and night. Milligan College has implemented new safety regulations starting this fall.

“It caught me off guard after dinner not being able to walk up to Hart and hang out in the lobby,” said junior Alex Fellers.

All other safety regulations from the previous year are still being enforced.

“We have been talking about issuing the locked dorms for a couple of years now,” said Brent Nipper, director of property and risk management.  “When the Villages were built, we tested how the students took having locked doors and it seemed to run pretty smoothly. This year we went ahead and decided to make all the dorms locked.”

The annual security report for 2013, which includes statistics for crimes that occurred on campus last year, will be available to the public on Oct. 1

The Annual Security Report includes campus crime statistics occurred 2013 that were taken place on Milligan’s campus.

The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act requires additional reporting policies and procedures this year, Nipper said.

Having same-gender dorms, being alcohol free, and being a Christian campus all promotes better security, Nipper said.

Safety procedures and the 2013 safety report are open to the public and can be located on Milligan’s website.
