From the new humanities tour to the new chapel schedule, this year has been one for some pretty big changes at Milligan, including a shiny new website that launched earlier this week.
“The website is our primary point of contact with prospective students, parents, alumni, the community at large, and friends of the college, as well as current students and faculty and staff,” said web developer & designer Thomas Parker. “So, having an attractive and easy-to-navigate website is an important part of our communications plan.”
Right from the home page, the website looks completely different from the old one. According to Parker, as well as being more user-friendly, the new website condensed the more than 900 static pages of content from the old website to make navigating as simple as possible.
“For students, we focused on making Milligan Today more useful,” Parker said. “It really is our central hub for communicating announcements and events to campus.”
More updates will be coming for Milligan Today as well.
The faster load times, ease of navigation and better performance on mobile devices are all qualities that will make using the website easier and more enjoyable for students, said Parker.
Parker and the team at the Public Relations and Marketing Office also worked to make the process of applying to Milligan go as smoothly as possible:
“We wanted to streamline the admission process and make it very clear what all of the steps in the process are,” he said. “I think we did a pretty good job, but time (and analytics) will tell.”
Parker offered a brief outline of how the process works, from the first steps of designing the website to getting it up and running: “The process began way back in January. We planned for several months before I ever wrote a line of code. Then, we began designing and created a number of mockups. We sent out several surveys to find out which mockups worked the best, continued to tweak them, and when we were happy with a basic design, I began to finally write code sometime in May. I’ve been writing code and copying content from the old site from May to September.”
